FAQ
answers to commonly asked questions
1. How long have you been filming weddings?
Blu Couture was founded in April of 2010, by a pair of film professionals in Chicago. These two film geeks soon became love birds. Weather this tid bit sparked their films to a new level is a matter of perspective, but soon after they were producing some of the best wedding films in the Country. Today, Blu Couture is not a pair but a family of film professionals (nine of us) with a continued focus to raise the standard for Wedding Films and dazzle couples from coast to coast (and everywhere in between).
2. How do your packages work?
Good Question. We start each package with an Awesome team member(s) to film your day using Grade A Gear and Lenses. That's standard for each package. After that the packages vary in 3 ways (for the most part): 1) time spent covering your day, 2) length of highlight film you get, 3) the cost of the package. We would be happy to explain the packages in greater detail or create a custom package for your specific needs.
3. Do you travel?
Does a cuddly bear have fluffy fur? Of course we travel! We are available for travel nationwide and are presently working with couples from all over the United States. We have passports too and know how to use them (and have for a few weddings!)
4. What are the costs associated with travel?
We have team members in Chicago, Washington DC, Atlanta, Winston Salem, and LA. All these areas don't require a travel fee. Any wedding between Atlanta to Washington DC does not require a travel fee. For weddings outside greater Chicago, DC, LA, Georgia, and North Carolina, an over-night is required and the costs associated with this travel varies, depending on the location. Usually its the cost of a hotel and gas money but sometimes we need a jet plane. We would be happy to look into it for you! It may be more affordable then you would expect.
5. Have you shot my ceremony or reception venue before?
Maybe, maybe not. We have filmed over 500 weddings since 2010 and been to a lot of different places. Being at a new venue is awesome because everything is seen with a fresh pair of eyes. Coming back to a familiar venue is cool too because we know what to expect and challenge ourselves to elevate the game. Either way, we are going to make a great film or die trying.
6. Will you be shooting any other weddings the weekend of my wedding?
Well, there are 9 of us in this wedding film family. That's a lot of mouths to feed (LoL). 7 of us are cinematographers and 3 are editors. We will usually film 2 weddings a weekend. 3 is rare. 4 or more isn't happening! We have back-ups for our back-ups. Gotta be prepared when it comes to one of the most important days in a couples life!
7. Who on team Blu will be filming my day?
That depends. Remember when we said we are "film professionals"? Well, since we are film professionals that means we're very active in the film industry (commercials, network television, Indie/Feature Films, and sometimes a good old fashioned documentary). Some of us, on occasion, may have other film obligations that carry over to the weekend. So we have a team meeting the month before your wedding to see everyone's schedule and decide who is filming who's wedding to make sure our couples are well taken care of. We arm wrestle over weddings in tropical places with beautiful beaches. Ok.... we don't but we totally should.
8. How long does it take to finish my wedding film?
On average it takes us one to three months to finish a film, beating most of our competitors completion time of 4 to 6 months (and even a year is not unheard of according to some of the feedback we get). We have taken longer then 90 days but this is usually during peak parts of the season. 99% of our films are delivered in less than 90 days.
9. Do you incorporate audio (i.e., vows, toasts, etc.) into our wedding films?
Most definitely! Great movies need dialogue to enhance the story. We record audio every time we press the record button. In a typical wedding we will use as many as 3 different methods to capture the best audio of your day: 1) the on-board microphones we have for our cameras, 2) Wireless & Wired microphones and, 3) digital recorders used to tap into soundboards. All three can be mixed to create the most realistic sound recreation for our films. It takes longer but sounds better!
10. How do you choose music?
We don't choose music, you choose music! It's your film so it should be your soundtrack! We are happy to help and guide you if you need help. We also reserve the right to veto any really bad music choices. No Brian Adams please.
11. How do you typically dress?
Comfortable but presentable. We can really dress up too if need be.
12. Do you carry insurance?
Yes, we carry both general and liability insurance and probably a lot more of it then the average joe. A ford explorer commercial doesn't come cheap, or some of the other commercial clients we have served over the years
13. What are the payment plans that you offer?
You can split the balance of your package up to 12 equal monthly payments.
14. Are there any other questions I should be asking?
Not sure but we do get this question often. Every couple is different and will have different needs. The best thing is to set up some time to chat with us. During our chat, as we answer questions for you, new questions that you didn't think of before may come up. We would love the opportunity to get to know you too!
